Hi, My name is Jay Holden, My friends call me Jayson. I'm a retired Gaffer at Steuben Glass at Corning Museum of Glass in Corning Ny. I've been a glassblower for over 37 years. I started out as a Scientific Lampworker in 1972 for Corning Glass Works then went into furnace work doing scientific glassblowing for Corning's labware devision. I joined Steuben in 1979 and went threw a six year apprenticship, became a gaffer and eventually a Master Gaffer. A year and a half ago I was injured while making a large lead crystal bowl and I had to retire. The injury keeps me from doing furnace work so I desided to go back to lampworking. I have a studio at home and all the equipment so why not use it? For legal reasons and medical problems I can't work right now but I do intend to make marbles and paperweights and pendants eventually. I need to brush up on my flameworking skills. I haven't worked glass in almost two years. I miss it very much. My artistic juices are flowing but I have to wait it out till the medical and legal people say to go for it. Meantime I'm lurking on the glass sights and taking my time. Soaking up all the knowledge I can. Lampworking has come a very long way since 1972. The talent out there is just amazing. My son is a lampworker and watching him grow as a glass artist is a journey I won't ever forget. It's great to be here and I hope you will all except me with open arms. Much respect to you all. Jay.

hey jayson, sounds like you have a much more knowledgeable background than i.

my names vaughn evans, im 27 and have been making glass in my home for 11 years. i started out making beads(the wrong way) and have gone through many phases and finally settled when i fell in love with marblemaking. i drive a cab here in beautiful lawrence, kansas, and aspire to make a living out of glass someday if i ever figure out how to market myself. i'm humbled by the quality of work on this page, and amazed that there are so few of us on here. I just joined today, and would love to chat with anybody about anything glass related. Not too many dedicated marblemakers in my neck of the woods.
